EN420
General requirements for all safety gloves, regardless of which category. It determines: Ergonomics Innocuousness Cleaning Marking of the glove and the packing
On top of EN 420, all gloves in category 2 and 3( intermediate and mortal risk) require tests by an independent and notified body according to the CE specification. The most important tests are according to:
EN 374
Protective gloves against chemicals and micro-organism. Determination of resistance against chemicals by: permeation, penetration and degradation. Determination of resistance to micro-organism.
EN 388
Protective gloves against mechanical risks I= abrasion resistance level (1-4) II= blade cut resistance level (1-5) III= tear resistance level (1-4) IV= puncture resistance level (1-4)
The values achieved according to the standardised CE tests are indicated with numbers from 1 to 4, cut level 1 to 5. The higher the value, the better the protection against this mechanical risk. If a test is not applicable, e.g. puncture resistance for knitted gloves, an "X" is mentioned.
EN 407
Protective gloves against thermal hazards Thermal hazards I= burning behaviour level (1-4) II=contact heat level (1-4) III= convection heat level (1-4) IV=radiant heat level (1-4) V=small splash molten metal VI=large quantity molten metal
EN511
Protective gloves against cold
Protection from cold I= convective cold II=contact cold III=water permeability
